On Optimization of the Metal Ion Production by Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Sources

The three-dimensional NAM-ECRIS model is applied for studying the metal ion production in DECRIS-PM Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source. Experimentally measured extracted currents are accurately reproduced with model. Parameters of injection vapors into source optimized. It found that axial highly directional fluxes allows increasing charged calcium ions by factor 1.5. reason gain formation internal barrier inside plasma, which increase extraction and efficiency. Benefits injecting singly-charged instead atoms discussed.
